Bar Edicola

Brand Identity

Downtown Montreal’s newest wine bar inspired by Italy in the 80’s and 90’s and old newsstands as its building once was. It is the latest collaboration between Caffettiera, The Cloakroom Bar, and Provisions Bar à Vin.

Bar Edicola means "newsstand" in Italian. Once one of the largest newsstands in Montreal, this reimagined edicola in a historic building is now a charming meeting spot. It's the perfect place to grab a quick coffee standing up or to sit down with friends over a bottle of wine.

Reflecting its setting, the bar’s logo is the assembly of distinctive letterforms that are all drawn from classic Italian magazines and newspapers. Rooted in seriousness, but flipped into something fun for a place that keeps things easygoing.

The lightheartedness carries forward with a line of custom illustrations. They draw directly from fashion magazine covers of the ’80s and ’90s, reimagined graphically.

The bar’s brand elements and cues strongly take after the locale’s history. As guests move through the experience, details rooted in the setting begin to reveal themselves. Cut-out letterforms across printed media, menu typography echoing old newspapers, and a light pink tone inspired by “La Gazzetta dello Sport” all reinforce the connection.
